What can we do?

Philip Oliver led Evensong at Warmington on Sunday, 15 March 2020 and his homily ended with these suggestions for all of us in the light of the Coronavirus pandemic:

Let’s all try to think of how we can get out there and spread Jesus’ message of love in our community and work, and of acts of individual kindness that we can all do the coming days and weeks to support those who may have to be isolated.  This could be:

  • Doing some shopping for neighbours or friends
  • Picking up a prescription, helping with hospital appointments
  • Dropping round a meal on the doorstep
  • Making a phone call, email or other contact, Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp, so that people know that they are not forgotten, and are cherished and loved.
  • Praying together – wherever we can, perhaps on the phone or via other contact
  • Something else that keeps things going in our community in these difficult times

By doing these practical loving things, as disciples of Christ, we quietly sow and we quietly reap, and we also show that Jesus:

  • Is for everyone, everywhere, whatever their background, whatever their sins.
  • Is someone who can wipe the slate clean for those who truly repent
  • Can provide the food and water of eternal life
  • Jesus is always with us all, every single step of the way.
