Why get married in Church?

A marriage service, wherever it is held, is a public declaration of love and commitment to your partner. If you choose to get married in church, there is an added dimension – the assurance that God cares about your relationship and that his resources and strength are available to help you. Including God in your marriage doesn’t mean that you will avoid all the usual ups and downs, but you will know that you can look to God for help and guidance and that his love will sustain you. You will also have the support and encouragement of the Christian Church family.

What do Christians believe about marriage?

The Bible compares married love to the love Jesus has for his followers. He expressed his love by being prepared to sacrifice himself, even to die for the people he loved. This is amazing, unconditional love.  In our marriages we can try to follow his model by loving our partners in a self-sacrificial way, putting their needs before our own.

The marriage ceremony gives you a new legal status as husband and wife and a new stability within which your relationship can flourish and grow. Christians believe that marriage offers the right place for the fulfilment of our sexuality and that it provides a stable and secure environment for bringing up children.

The wedding service

Because of the relationship with the Vicar, your wedding can be made personal, memorable, meaningful and beautiful.
You can be involved in making choices about your ceremony.  Churches can be described as 'peaceful', 'serene', or having an atmosphere that makes marrying there a particularly special experience.

Applying to be married in one of our churches

You will need to complete the wedding application form, then return to me by post or email.  If you have no past or present family links, please indicate regular attendance at church services. If you come along to join with us for worship as frequently as you can, that fulfils the requirements very nicely. Please refer to the service times on the calendar and homepage.

If you would like a Marriage Blessing and Renewal of Vows service, please contact Revd Anne who will be very happy to discuss the details with you.

If either (or both) of you have been married before and divorced this is not a barrier to being married in the Anglican Church but it is something that needs to be discussed with the priest who is going to marry you. You would also need to show a decree absolute to prove your previous marriage has been dissolved.

We are very positive about couples who want to remain faithful to each other, whatever their gender. However, while there are prayers we can offer for you, legally, we cannot offer same sex marriage ceremonies in our church. When the government introduced same sex marriage in 2014, the Church of England deliberately asked to be excluded from that process.

How much will it cost?

The statutory fees are revised each year by the Church of England. For 2018 the total fees will be £679 or £879 with the bells, if you choose to be married in one of the Warmington Benefice churches.

With every blessing on your preparations
