From The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. Extract played here by James Parsons on the Wingfield 'Tudor' organ during its recent residency at Fotheringhay Church.
Over a solemn accompaniment, Flor Peeters sings what seems to me a slow but passionate song of love, longing, and ‘welcome to our dear Lord Jesus’.

Description
Organ music - a reflection for Lent (played by Fotheringhay Organist, James Parsons)
Chorale Variations on Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig (‘Ah how fleeting, ah how insubstantial’)
Ach wie flüchtig... is a German Lutheran Hymn with text and music by Michael Franck, writing shortly after the Thirty Years War.
Georg Böhm, organist of the Johanniskirche in Lüneburg, was one of Bach’s early teachers. The chorale, heard firstly on the stentorian tones of a Trumpet stop, declaims the futility of human endeavour. Seven engaging variations follow, featuring various dance metres, subtle ornamentation and the colourful palette of the organ at Ystym Colwyn Hall, where James recorded this work.
